I used to treat my design work and my spiritual life as two separate things. I had my time for prayer, and then I had my time to work. But somewhere along the way, I realized God never asked for separation. He wants to be invited into all of it. Even the mood boards. Even the messy drafts.

So I started praying before I designed.

At first, it felt strange. I’d sit down at my desk, open up Illustrator or InDesign, and say something simple like, “God, guide my hands. Help me create something meaningful.” And over time, it became second nature.

There have been moments where I’ve stared at a screen for hours, tweaking colors and rearranging layouts. I would hit a wall creatively and feel stuck in a loop of frustration. But then I’d pause, close my eyes for a second, and pray.

I would ask God for clarity. For inspiration. For peace.

And something would shift. Maybe not instantly. But soon enough, I’d find a combination that just felt right. Not because it was trendy, but because it carried intention. I began to realize that when I ask God into those small choices, I design with a deeper purpose. I design with Him, not just for Him.

There are days when the ideas do not come. The deadline is close, the screen is blank, and I feel empty. Those are the moments where I remind myself, creativity is not something I have to force. It is a gift I can receive.

So I pray.

I ask God to breathe life into my ideas. I ask for joy in the process again. I take a walk, flip through Scripture, listen to worship, and remember who gave me the ability to create in the first place.

God is the original Creator. When we ask Him to move in our work, we are tapping into something bigger than ourselves. Something eternal. Now I pray over every project. Whether it is a big branding job or a small Instagram post, I invite God into it. Not because I think the final product will be perfect, but because I want to be close to Him through the process.

Every client. Every color. Every sketch. Every caption.

He is in it with me.

So, let me ask you:

Are you inviting God into your work, or just asking Him to bless it after it is done?

Have you prayed over your creativity lately?

Where in your process do you need clarity, peace, or joy?

God cares about what you are creating. Not just the end result, but every tiny decision along the way. He gave you your gift. And He would love to be part of it. All you have to do is ask.
